Colour Review: Gamblin Warm White Oil Paint

Gamblin Warm White Oil Paint

This is a completely different colour to the normal Titanium Buff that is offered by most oil manufactures. It's creamy in nature but still has a robust feel when dipped into. Here's the scoop...

All whites grey colour. Most whites are cool in nature and will not only grey but also cool your colour mixtures down. As a result, it can be tough to make a warm light colour.

Though generally warm in nature Flake white is weak and the warmth it carries is minimal. Zinc white dries slower and is great for outdoor and alla-prima situations, but it's prone to cracking and should be used on panels only.

Gamblin Warm White is true warm white and not the cooler and greyer version of titanium buff that is out there. It works great in areas where whites are receding and warming, as in clouds and snow. It's nice in warm foreground patches and stellar for sunrise and sunset paintings where the overall light source is predominantly warm in nature.

I always resist another colour on my palette but Gamblin’s Warm White is a welcome addition.

Happy Painting
Doug.
