Soapstone is a well known stone used by Inuit sculptors for its soft grain. It is free from impurities and therefore easy to carve with x-acto knives, rasps or traditional stone carving tools. The stone's smooth finish is achieved by burnishing the surface with "wet or dry" sandpaper then buffing with linseed oil.
