Make a watercolour painting of your own!
Join Karen Scarlett as she takes you through an introduction of this wonderful ancient medium.
Watercolour techniques are unique to watercolour. Unlike oil or acrylic painting, where the paints stay where they are put and dry more or less in the form they are applied, water is an active and complex partner in the watercolor painting process, changing both the absorbency and shape of the paper when it is wet and the outlines and appearance of the paint as it dries. The difficulty in watercolor painting is almost entirely in learning how to anticipate and leverage the behavior of water, rather than attempting to control or dominate it.
Karen Scarlett is a western landscape artist. She often has multiple items in the works and considers herself a multi-disciplinary artist. Karen’s current favourites are fibre and painting, especially the mixed media work she is immersed in presently.
My favourite subject to paint are the prairies of Alberta. The fields surrounding the farm where I grew up are a continued source of inspiration & are ingrained in my mind. Even without pictures for resources I can still see the fields west of Innisfail and more importantly I can smell the fresh cut of the harvest.
Sampler Classes are designed for anyone wanting to try out different mediums before investing in workshops and supplies. Classes are 3 hours long and all supplies are included. We begin with a brief demo and discussion of various techniques. Participants will then experiment and create their own masterpiece. If you want to try a something new or have never painted before, or even if you already have a favorite medium, sampler classes are a great way to expand your artistic horizons.
