Surrounded by friendly, art passionate peers your child will learn an understanding of fundamental art techniques through artistic problem solving. Kelly firmly believes in encouraging each and every child’s artistic talents. Every student will soon find that having fun and learning about art go hand in hand and your child will be painting and sketching better than ever before. In a small class size of only 12 students, instruction is always immediately available. With 4-year bachelors of Fine Art Degree focused in painting and a 2-year Undergraduate Degree in Education Kelly is a highly qualified instructor.
Students work from the reference images they choose and are encouraged to try any medium they wish. A strong focus is placed on drawing in this class, as every student is required to sketch out their picture before they paint. Oil paint is a good initial medium of choice when starting out in this class, however students can choose to work in any medium they wish be it pastel pencil, pencil crayon, watercolour paint, or even Copic markers.
Supplies are available at our location and we would be happy to have your supplies ready for you in advance.
Kelly Covert is an artist/art educator living and working in Calgary. Kelly began teaching privately in 2009 and has been running weekly classes, workshops, demos and summer camps every year since. She graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the Alberta College of Art + Design, majoring in Painting. As well she has just completed her Bachelors of Education Degree at the University of Calgary in the spring of 2013.
As soon as Kelly could hold a pencil she was hooked on all things art. She attributes some of her artistic skill to the fact that she took private art classes for the majority of her childhood and these classes provided her with the foundation to become the artist she is today.
Over the past few years the focus of her artistic practice has changed quite a lot. Currently she can be found working in her art studio on a painting series of brightly coloured acrylic spray paint and stencil paintings or perhaps working with her newfound love; Copic Markers. And with an interest for technology Kelly has even begun teaching herself how to use Photoshop to produce very interesting digital paintings. By constantly exploring new mediums, Kelly brings a fresh and updated perspective to her artistic practice.
