I've never done any painting beyond art class in school, would this be a good place for me to start? Also I have a particular painting I want to paint that I can't get out of my head, is this something I could use the class to complete this basic picture to be it's best given my non-existant experience? Was hoping I could get an emailed reply. Thank you.

It really all depends on how intricate the picture you have is and how far you want to take the painting. Some thing are just two difficult to do in a day, that being said, there are ways to simplify down a photo to a state where one could paint it in a day.
