Two-day Mixed Media Workshop

Mixed Media is artwork created using more than one medium (ie. watercolor and acrylic, acrylic and oils, etc.). This workshop will focus on using dry charcoal and pigments in conjunction with wet media. We will work on how to combine these elements, work with negative space, and combine abstract design with realism. The students will be using dry media, acrylic paints and gels, gold or copper leaf, metallic powders, as well as any traditional materials they wish.

The workshop will include:

Demonstration of Zarb’s painting technique
Do’s and Don’ts of Mixed Media
Proper layering of Mixed Media
Using powdered charcoal and metals with wet media
Creating “texture” with any medium
Gilding techniques and how to incorporate gold leaf with painting
Various surfaces for mixed media work
The importance of experimenting!

The most important focus of this workshop is to encourage each student to experiment, play, and just have fun with new mediums and combinations of media. Each student will have hours of “hands-on” painting time with individual attention from the instructor. Our goal is to give every artist new tools and techniques they can incorporate into their personal work.
