Date & Time: Saturday, March 29, 2025, 9:30 - 4:00 pm Sunday, March 30, 2025, 9:30 - 4:00 pm Level: Some experience - Advanced Instructor: Bobbi Dunlop Medium: Oil or Acrylic All demos done in oil, experienced acrylic painters welcome Are you frustrated with your figurative painting looking stiff and lifeless? Would you like to experience the “joy” of putting brush marks on canvas... without labouring overdrawing and measuring? Are you frustrated by teaching methods requiring you to continuously measure... only to have your paintings lack freshness and vitality? In this 2-Day Workshop, all levels of artists who desire to bring ‘freshness & life” to their figurative paintings will learn to simplify a complex figurative photo (or scee) using Bobb approach to ‘starting’ a painting that will inspire you to create the paintings you thought were beyond your reach. We will touch on all the ‘simple ideas’ that Bobbi emphasizes in her teaching: “logical ideas”... the nuts and bolts necessary to build a strong, beautiful painting; ideas that will help take the mystery out of painting and add the magic you are seeking. Ideas that will take your work to the next level of understanding. On the first morning of this workshop, Bobbi will begin with a demonstration in oil In the afternoon, artists will follow along with Bobbi in a “paint-along”, using the same photo reference (supplied). At a certain point in the painting exercise, artists will be encouraged to take the painting along in their own inspired way! On the second day, using methods learned on the first day, artists will begin with their own exploration in a small study, using their personal photo reference(s) and take this to a much more finished rendition of their study (SEE SUPPLY LIST FOR DETAILS ABOUT PHOTO REFERENCES). In this invigorating 2-Day Workshop, you will learn to “push ideas”, using your own photo references, look for “possibilities” in your work, and using our studies, bring our studio painting to life. All the elements of a strong painting will be emphasized and explored; from creating a concept to abstract design, the fundamentals: Shape, Value, Edges, Paint Quality/Colour... and more. NOTE: The emphasis of this workshop is NOT about finishing a painting However, it is about simplifying your subject (from life or a photo) and exploring the beauty in paint. See the supply list at checkout or on our "Art Workshops" page.
