Date & Time: Saturday, May 31, 2025, 9:30-4:00 pm Sunday, June 1st, 2025, 9:30-4:00 pm Instructor: Bobbi Dunlop Mediums: Oil or Acylic Location: 7160 Fisher St SE, Calgary (Swinton's Art Supplies) “A Pocket Full of Poseys ...” Many of us will remember that childhood rhyme with fondness! And, when we feel spring is in the air, it often brings to mind delightful gardens filled with glorious flowers in blossom. So, let’s paint some poseys! I like to keep things "Simple.” A process more about painting relationships and ideas than formulas. And, I can’t think of a better vehicle to explore these ideas in paint than the still life. What makes a beautiful painting? This is one of the thought-provoking ‘ideas’ we’ll be exploring in this challenging and eye-opening 2-day workshop. In a direct approach to painting our beautiful still lifes, we will pay close attention to such major concepts as light and beautiful paint quality. We’ll stay true to those important “fundamentals” as you learn to have “the confidence in yourself” to pull it all together and portray your subject convincingly. You will not merely be painting a floral still life. You will be creating a beautiful painting. Are you interested in learning new concepts that will take your paintings to a higher level of understanding? On the first morning of this 2-Day Workshop, I will demonstrate an oil painting of a floral still life from life. During this demonstration, I’ll explain my process - the decisions made - and you will be free to ask lots of questions throughout. For the remainder of the workshop, you will be working on your own paintings of your floral still life arrangement from life, utilizing the ideas and concepts learned from the demonstration. There will be plenty of hands-on guidance throughout the workshop. (Students will bring their own flowers (real or fake!) and still life objects. See supply list.) This workshop is sure to transform your approach to your own work. My hope is that you’ll come away with a renewed confidence in your artist-self and a fresh look at your painting practice that will serve as a stepping stone to all genres.
