Date & Time: Friday, April 11, 6:00 - 8:00 pm (Demo with a live model, food & drinks!) Saturday, April 12, 9:00 - 4:00 pm Sunday, April 13, 9:00 - 4:00 pm 1hr lunch break on Saturday & Sunday. Location: 7160 Fisher St SE, Calgary, AB. (Swinton’s Art Supplies) Media: Oil Painting Level: Some experience to advanced levels. Instructor: Emma Rach-Syslak Instructors Instagram: @emmaersart With a live model! Join me to learn about oil painting the portrait from life! In this workshop, we will be focusing on developing a block, working in mass, discovering what value means, the basics of colour and how to paint skin tones. This workshop offers an immersive opportunity for artists to explore the art of traditional portrait painting. It caters to artists of all skill levels, whether you’re a novice looking to acquire fundamental techniques or an experienced painter seeking to try something new or enhance your portrait skills. Supply list: o Stretched canvas or canvas panel. About 11x14” bigger or smaller. - Tone the painting surface beforehand- this means covering the canvas with an initial “stain” of paint. Rub raw umber (or similar) with oil over the surface until a mid-tone is achieved. Let dry overnight. o Oil Paints: Ivory black, Titanium white, Yellow Ochre, Earth red (English or Venetian) o Brushes- sizes 1, 5, 8, 10 mix of filbert, flats and rounds. Will mostly use filberts and flat brights. o Palette o Linseed or walnut oil o Palette knife o Paper towels
